Meggie Cheung

Piano

ATCL Performer's Diploma, BDS, Adv Cert in piano performance, BMusic

From Dentistry to Classical and Jazz

Meggie Cheung, pianist and educator (though pedagogue is a beautiful word, its connotations in English are that it describes a dull or strict teacher), obtained her ATCL Performer’s Diploma from Trinity College of London at the age of 15, and has been teaching privately ever since. She later graduated from the University of Hong Kong, Bachelor of Dental Studies, and worked as a certified dentist.

In 2008, she moved to Boston, MA, and furthered her music study at the New England Conservatory. She studied with Douglas Buys, himself a pupil of world-famous pianist Robert Casadesus, his son Jean, and Nadia Boulanger. Meggie's other teachers include Ya-Fei Chuang, A. Ramón Rivera, Dr Larry Bell and Eyran Katsenelenbogen.

In 2014, she received her Bachelor's degree in Music from Wilfrid Laurier University, under the instruction of Prof. Leslie De’Ath, one of Canada’s most prolific recording artists.

Meggie Cheung has performed in Pierce Hall, William Hall and Steinert Hall in Boston, and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. She has recorded classical repertoire and her own compositions in Futura Studio, Boston.

Currently, Meggie focuses on piano pedagogy and Dalcroze Eurhythmics. As a member of ACMP, she actively participates in chamber music groups and has performed with trios, quartets and quintets in Canada and the United States. Though a classically trained pianist, she is also proficient in jazz and contemporary improvisation.
